Course Description
The online Pediatric ICU Rehabilitation Foundations Course has 18 recorded presentations and is divided into 4 themes:
- Using the Evidence Base to Get Started
- Therapy Champions: The Key to Success in Rehab for Critically Ill Children
- The Pediatric ICU Team: Translating Mobility Programs Into Practice
- Nuts and Bolts: Key Logistical Issues in PICU Mobility
The Pediatric ICU Rehabilitation Foundations Course is designed to provide foundational knowledge that is essential for effective collaboration and coordination to facilitate early mobility and rehabilitation in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting. This course aims to breakdown ‘silos’ among critical care and rehabilitation clinicians working in the ICU, through interdisciplinary education. Moreover, the course provides insights into creating an ICU culture based on proactive rehabilitation and interdisciplinary collaboration between all critical care and rehabilitation clinicians.
Who Should Attend
This course is intended for physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, respiratory therapists, physiatrists, ICU physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychologists, and psychiatrists.
Format & Content
The course has recorded presentations, with an accompanying pdf copy of the presentation slides (excluding copyright material and patient images) and associated quizzes. As its focus is on foundational material, the content of this course does not change from year to year.
Course Expiration
The course is available for unlimited viewing for 180 days after your purchase date.
Course Objectives
- Analyze and apply current evidence to initiate and sustain early rehabilitation and mobility programs in the pediatric ICU
- Describe strategies for fostering a culture of rehabilitation through collaboration among all providers
- Identify best practices for sedation management, sleep promotion, delirium prevention, and communication support
- Design and operationalize early mobilization programs for critically ill children
- Recognize and manage key logistical and clinical considerations to safely and effectively integrate mobility into pediatric critical care

CEUs
The Pediatric ICU Rehabilitation Foundations course does not offer automatic CEUs for registrants. Upon completion of the course, you will complete a very brief survey to generate your certificate of completion. On an individual basis, you may be able to use the certificate of completion to self-submit to your own accreditation body for your CEU.
Certificate
After successfully completing the course, learners will receive a certificate of completion from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. On an individual basis, you may be able to use this certificate of completion to self-submit to your own accreditation body for Continuing Education Credit.
Learning Prerequisites
There are no specific course prerequisites. You will need to have English language fluency.
Technical Prerequisites
The course will take place on the Canvas LMS (Canvas.jhu.edu). You will need the ability to log on to the platform, preferably using Google Chrome, to complete the content, which will include video presentations and downloadable presentation handouts.

For asynchronous courses, learners will have access for 180 days after registration.
